This Week's Treasure of the Week

Week 5
Gardner Engine

This auxiliary engine was installed in MV Sunrisen, a riveted steel constructed cargo boat with living accommodation and fully powered with a main engine used to carrying bulk wheat ex ship from Avonmouth to Townsends Flour Mills at Worcester.

She was operated and Captained by Mr W R Butt with a crew of 2/3 in the 1930's. Subsequently the main engine and this Gardner engines were replaced with modern diesel engines. This engine was retained and used for driving farm machinery and is still in working order.

This engine was purchased from Mr Walter Butt, whose father was the Captain. It is just one of approximately 50 stationary engines at Oakham Treasures.
