Petrol Cans

We have well over 50, 2 gallon petrol cans in our collection, they are extremely eye catching with their vibrant colours. Many of the cans are in their original state, complete with original bronze caps, with some being restored to match their true colours.

The 2 gallon petrol cans were in use before petrol stations were common enabling further distances to be travelled before the need to refuel. They could be bought from ironmongers and chemists.

The cans were imprinted and designed with the fuel providers name or logo showing. Each separate company used different colour combinations according to its manufacturing date.

Popular names in our collection include Pratts which later became Esso, Shell, Regent, Wimpey and Redline.
